About UsThe Devon Rex Owners Club was a very long time in gestation! The fact that the Devon Rex had became the only rex breed in GCCF without its own specific breed club was commented on frequently but the idea of forming the club grew rather more slowly. Laura Pinches (now Twigger), was probably the first person to voice the idea around 2010 but it stayed as just an idea, for several years, albeit with several domain names in the bag, as insurance! Over the next few years the idea came up now and again and was talked about and then put on the back burner, awaiting the right time to share the idea more widely.
During that time the need for a dedicated club to protect and promote the breed became ever more obvious. New breeders were finding it difficult to get started and to get objective help and advice whilst at the same type the unique, wicked, gremlin look of the breed seemed to be becoming less common. So finally in 2014 Lynda Ashmore, Jen Pinches and Laura Twigger decided that it was time that the idea should finally become a reality. In early 2015 the current domain for this website was registered and plans put in place to officially launch the club and apply to become a provisional member of GCCF. Finally, on 13th October 2015 the club placed a notice on the GCCF website to announce the formation of the club and invite those interested to an inaugural meeting. |
Aims and Objectives
The Devon Rex had become the only GCCF rex breed without a single, breed specific, club representing it and whilst we all recognise and appreciate the immense support given over the years by the other clubs and have no wish to diminish their involvement with the breed, we felt the time was right that our breed should have a club that is uniquely its own.
We aim to be an inclusive and welcoming group where everyone who is interested in, owns or loves the breed can feel at home. That applies not only to those in the UK and associated with GCCF but equally to everyone, wherever they live or whichever registry they may be involved with, as long as they love and have an interest in these curly coated gremlins of the cat world.
We welcome all owners, breeders, exhibitors and lovers of this unique breed and we will work alongside the other rex clubs to preserve, protect and promote interest in Devon Rex cats and to offer advice and guidance for everyone who has an interest in the Devon Rex breed. We also work in close collaboration with the other rex clubs on welfare matters involving the breed.
We encourage the involvement of those new to the breed, including those interested in taking on the challenge of breeding and are able to offer support and advice; whether by formal mentoring or by exchange of information and experiences from more experienced Devon owners and breeders. We also encourage the use of all appropriate genetic tests, whether mandatory or not, as knowledge and sharing of that knowledge is invaluable for the health and future of the breed. We also believe that outcrossing is a valuable tool to be used selectively to widen and strengthen the Devon Rex gene pool and it should never be forgotten that the breed owes its existence to a single individual and that every Devon Rex worldwide has Kirlee as a common ancestor.
All club members are encouraged to join the club Facebook group, where we share news, information, pictures and the love we share for this unique breed.
